Established in 2017 and run by industry professional Sam Barnett, SB2Build has continued to provide only the best quality build work in New Zealand. SB2 Build brings more than 35 years of management experience to every project they undertake, and this wealth of experience shows in everything they do.
SB2 Build aims to make the building process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible whether you are a first-time builder or a seasoned developer. Our services are ideal for:

Sam Barnett - Licensed Builder
Sam grew up on a farm in the Hauraki Plains where there was always a hammer within reach. His childhood dream was to become a builder and that dream was realised in 2006. Throughout his apprenticeship Sam worked on a range of building projects including new builds, renovations and - being in a strong farming community - plenty of farms sheds and cowsheds.
As he qualified there was a recession in full swing so Sam moved to Auckland for work. There he became involved in commercial building with shop fitouts. This gave Sam experience of running multiple trades in a short timeframe and managing projects. From there a leading foreman role managing large-scale residential renovations and a project managers role leading 24 builders over multiple sites followed.
Sam started his own building business when approached by a real estate agent looking to flip some houses and eventually ended up in Dunedin.
There are lots of building companies to choose from so why choose SB2 Build? Here are three reasons why we are Dunedin's recommended builders.
We offer a full service
We can organise all the trades needed for your renovation or build including an architect if you need one. From the first quote to the finished build, we'll manage everything for you. One of us is always involved in the job so you know the boss is in the loop.
We're qualified and licensed
One way to make your building project run smoothly is by employing experienced qualified builders and using apprentices working through the BCITO training programme. SB2 Build is a Licensed Building Practitioner so we can carry out restricted building work.
We make it enjoyable
We want you to enjoy the process of building or renovating as much as you enjoy the result, so we aim to make everything simple and stress-free. Having our friendly team on site will be a pleasant experience and we'll keep you updated often with our progress.
We build new homes across Dunedin and Otago, from family homes and apartments to flat pack and panel homes. We can work from plans you already have or connect you with an architect, then project manage the build from start to completion, including every sub-contractor on the job.
Our renovations and extensions work covers kitchens, bathrooms, home additions and conversions, plus outdoor work such as decks, fencing, patios and pathways. Renovations can be just as tricky as a new build, so we manage them the same way, from the design stage to the finished job.
Our light commercial work includes shop and office fit-outs, commercial renovations, and warehouse, storage and farming facilities. Businesses, investors and developers come to us when they need a reliable builder who can take on larger projects.
SB2 Build is based at 54 Argyle Street in Mosgiel, and we build across Dunedin, Mosgiel, the Taieri and wider Otago.
Working locally means we know the ground we build on. Hill suburbs from Roslyn to Maori Hill often need pole foundations, retaining walls and extra drainage, while a flat section on the Taieri Plains often does not. We also prepare consent applications regularly, so we know what the Dunedin City Council expects and how to present plans so they clear review the first time.
Choosing a building company is one of the biggest financial decisions you will make, so it pays to check credentials before you sign anything. These are the ones we hold:
A fixed-price contract. If you have plans already, we can give you a detailed full fixed price. A fixed-price contract sets a firm figure for an agreed scope, so the risk of an overrun sits with us rather than you.
An owner on site. Either Sam or Simon is always on site overseeing your job, so your project is managed right from the top. You have one point of contact, and we keep you updated throughout the build so there are no nasty surprises.
We pick the job up at any stage. If your plans are drawn up, we can quote from them. If you are at the very beginning, we can help with design concepts, connect you with an architect and provide realistic pricing for budgeting or pre-approval.
Yes. We are a Registered Master Builder, licensed under the Licensed Building Practitioner scheme, a BCITO training partner and HazardCo accredited. Those are the credentials to check on any building company in Dunedin, including us.

One of the owners. Either Sam or Simon is always on site overseeing your job, so decisions are made by the people accountable for them and you have one point of contact throughout.
